Fatemeh Haghighat-Pajo= uh, a 33-year-old woman has been sentenced to death (an eye for an eye) for killi= ng her husband in 1997. She is the “Sigheh” wife (Islamic temporary marriage) of the man. He had lost her 15-year-old daughter in a gambling ma= tch to get money for his heroin addiction and attempted to rape her. The Supreme Court has ruled Fatemeh’s death sentence. The execution is to be taken place in the next few days.

The death penalty shou= ld be stopped now. Join us to protest and stop Fatemeh’s execution. She mus= t be saved.

Fatemeh like many women and young= girls in Iran<= /st1:country-region> fight for their lives. She is the victim of brutality and woman bashing. The Islamic government in Iran, not only does not protect women and young girls from abuse and violence, it actually encourages the Islamic values which dictate women as the property = of their fathers, husbands or male guardians. They are sold, raped and even dr= ugged. In a system where poverty and alienation lead to addiction no person is saf= e. In a system where Islamic justice says women take their orders from men and should obey their decisions, no woman or child is safe.

I/We have= been informed by the Organisation for Women’s Liberation – Iran of the distressing news of a 33 year = old woman being condemned to death by the Supreme court in Iran.

&nbs= p;

I/We stro= ngly protest against the execution of Fatemeh. I/We condemn the Iran= 217;s Supreme Court’s decision and demand Fatemeh’s immediate release. Fatemeh is the victim of violence against women and young girls. She must be freed immediately and the sentence of death penalty be abolished in Iran. <= o:p>
