Condemn the Attempt to Assassinate Majid Hamidi, Worker Activist of City of Sanandaj

We are sorry to inform you that on October 18, 2007 around 9.00 p.m. Majid Hamidi, worker activist from city of Sanandaj was attacked by three masked and armed motorbike riders. He was shot seven times; most of the bullets hit his right arm and one bullet hit his neck. Majid Hamidi was immediately taken to Sanandaj Hospital. However, due to his serious condition he was transferred to Amir Alam Hospital in Tehran.

Murder attempt of Majid Hamidi is another crime and a part of “serial killings” that was conducted by the Ministry of Intelligence of the Islamic Republic; it is another conspiracy against worker activists. The Islamic regime did not succeed to terrorize the society through pressure, widespread arrests, and lashing and imprisonment of worker and student activists. Thus, it has turned to a new means to terrify worker activists. The Islamic regime should face immediate and widespread international reaction in order to step back from such wicked policies.

It should be reminded that the pressure against political prisoners has also been intensified. According to reports, Mansoor Osanloo has lost the sight of his right eye since he had been denied medical care. Mahmood Salehi, well-known worker leader, has been imprisoned for several months despite the malfunction of his only kidney. Ebrahim Madadi, a member of executive committee of Tehran Municipal Transport Workers’ Union, has been transferred from the notorious Evin Prison to Ghezel Hessar Prison, where ordinary inmates serve their sentences. Moreover, 13 worker activists from Sanandaj and 5 other from Saqez have been sentenced to prison and lashes recently.

The International Labour Solidarity Committee of the Worker-communist Party of Iran calls on all worker unions around the world

1-To strongly condemn the assassination attempt of Majid Hamidi, worker activist from Sanandaj;

2-To demand the arrest and trial of those that have been involved in this criminal act;

3-To demand immediate and unconditioned release of all political prisoners including Mahmood Salehi, Mansoor Osanloo, and Ebrahim Madadi;

4-To help ending the pressure and intimidation against worker activists and to retreat the conspiracy of the Islamic regime against worker activists by widely supporting workers in Iran;

The worker activists and leaders in Iran are in need of international support more than ever.
